Online Dating, Dating Apps and Matchmaking

There is love in the air! Yes, that is wat you read, it is February…..

Let’s talk honestly with one of the trending topics“online dating and matchmaking”

Online dating is no longer a “foreign” idea. It’s no longer something we only hear about in the western world; it is happening everywhere smartphones and data exist.

From Instagram DMs and WhatsApp introductions to Lege Miami Matchmaking Show on Instagram, Facebook Dating, and even Christian dating apps, relationships have gone digital. Hallelujah!

So, the real question is not whether online dating exists. The real question is how do you relate in this controversial generation without losing faith, values, and witness as a Christian youth?

Dating has changed, But God has not. In Bible times, there were no dating apps. No profiles. No swipes. No “last seen….”Yet the human heart has not changed.Naturally, people still desire companionship, love, marriage and to be known and understood.

God Himself acknowledged this need when He said, “It is not good that man should be alone.” (Genesis 2:18)

Desiring a relationship is not a sin. Wanting marriage is not carnality. Feeling lonely is not spiritual weakness but staying in loneliness. The issue has never been “desire”, the issue has always been “direction”.

Let’s be practical and truthful, a lady meets a “guy” on Facebook who claims to be born again but avoids accountability. A guy meets someone on Instagram who looks godly online but lives differently offline. Long-distance emotional relationships built without real-life verification.

Globally, online dating has created curated identities instead of authentic character, Fast emotional intimacy without responsibility and a culture of ghosting, replacement, and emotional detachment

This is why online dating is powerful, and also dangerous. Scripture warns us: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” —Proverbs 4:23

Digital connection can bypass wisdom if the heart is unguarded.

The Bible does not say, “Thou shalt not use dating apps.” So online dating is not sinful by default. But Scripture teaches us that not everything permissible is beneficial. “All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful.” —1 Corinthians 6:12

Jesus also reminds us that the issue is rarely the tool, it is the heart behind its use. “The lamp of the body is the eye… if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light.” —Matthew 6:22

The platform is neutral. The posture of the heart is not. Dating apps train people to judge humans in seconds, reduce people to pictures and bios and treat relationships as disposable

Swipe culture says: “If it’s hard, move on.” “If you’re bored, replace.” And “If it doesn’t excite you instantly, discard.”

Christ teaches something radically different. “Love is patient, love is kind…” —1 Corinthians 13:4

Jesus teaches covenant, not convenience. faithfulness, not fantasy. depth, not disposability. A believer must intentionally swim against the current—even online.

In every nation including Nigeria and beyond, some warning signs appear repeatedly:

Someone avoids meeting responsibly in public settings

Faith is loudly proclaimed but quietly absent in lifestyle

Sexual conversations start early and aggressively

Secrecy is demanded under the guise of “privacy”

Scripture is used manipulatively to control or pressure

The Bible advises:

“Test all things; hold fast what is good.” —1 Thessalonians 5:21

Being Christlike does not mean being careless. Discernment is not unbelief.

I think you can judge by yourself and be truthful to yourself, is your time worth wasting? Can you find love in Christ before you get lost or lust? Let me know your thought by reaching out to the editor-in-chief via email

Here I will be bringing you topics relating to contemporary controversies that are not demon and the deliverance you need is by knowing and embracing the truth as the bible says “my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. “Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.” Hosea 4:6.

See you on the next one …...
